Leaving the swamp of the Big Fish

This summer, I had the absolute joy of being a part of Big Fish at the Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre. I'm incredibly grateful to have worked with the talented Paige Austin Rammelkamp as our Music Director and Leigh Rowls as our Director. Both of these incredible woman gave me the chance to challenge myself as an understudy and as a million other roles (with 10 different costumes!).
It was an incredible experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone, especially when it came to my dancing skills. I hadn't focused on dance in a while, so getting back into the rhythm of choreography was both exciting and intimidating. I found myself relearning techniques, building stamina, and refining my movement in ways I hadn’t before. It was a rewarding challenge that reminded me of how much I love dancing and how important it is to keep growing in every aspect of performance. I owe so much to our talented choreographers, Elda Trombley and Billy Luzier, who pushed me to challenge myself as a dancer and went above and beyond to keep me in the loop while I was juggling Big Fish with American Psycho rehearsals and performances at the same time.
Balancing two shows wasn’t easy, but it was definitely worth it. I made so many wonderful new friends, and the sticky, rainy, and humid nights performing outdoors in the heart of Annapolis gave me memories I'll treasure forever. Though the work was challenging, it was such a thrilling and fulfilling summer!
Thank you to everyone who supported me along the way. I’m excited to take everything I’ve learned into the next adventure!
With love,
Sydne
