I’m thrilled to be spending this spring at Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, working on the brand-new musical Safety Not Guaranteed. Directed by Oliver Butler, with a book by Nick Blaemire and music and lyrics by Ryan Miller (yes—that Ryan Miller, the band leader of Guster). This show is based on the cult-favorite film written by Derek Connolly and is bursting with heart, humor, and just the right amount of chaos.
Being part of a new musical in development is always special, but this process has been truly phenomenal. I’m currently understudying the roles of Darius and Liz (and others), which means every rehearsal is a deep dive into wildly different worlds, energies, and emotional landscapes. What makes this experience especially thrilling is that the script and music are evolving constantly—new changes, tweaks, and discoveries happening almost every single day. It keeps us all on our toes in the best possible way and reminds me why I love being part of new work: it’s alive, collaborative, and never static.
Watching this story take shape in real time—while also preparing to step into multiple roles—has been both a challenge and a joy. The room is full of curiosity, generosity, and a shared excitement about telling this story as boldly and honestly as we can.
Safety Not Guaranteed runs from March 3rd through April 12th at Signature Theatre.
I’m especially excited to share that I will be going on for the lead role of Darius
on April 7th, 8th, and 9th.
Time travel may not be guaranteed, but a great night of theatre definitely is. 🚀✨
