Closing Octet & SNG

What an incredible few months it has been.

Closing both Octet and Safety Not Guaranteed feels a little surreal. These two shows challenged me in completely different ways, pushed me outside of my comfort zone, and gave me experiences I will carry with me for a very long time.

Octet was, without a doubt, one of the most musically challenging shows I have ever been a part of. The music is incredibly intricate, and being surrounded by such a talented group of performers pushed me to grow as a musician and as an artist. I was also incredibly grateful for the opportunity to go on as Paula. It was my first time going on professionally as an understudy, which made it a particularly meaningful milestone for me. There is something both terrifying and exhilarating about stepping into a role at a moment's notice and trusting all of the preparation you've put in. I am so proud of myself for taking that leap.

And then came Safety Not Guaranteed.

Working on a new musical is such a unique experience. There is nothing quite like being in the room while a piece of theatre is still discovering what it wants to be. Reworking a new musical is thrilling, exciting, occasionally messy, and a HUGE challenge — but that is also what makes it so rewarding. Every rehearsal felt like an opportunity to discover something new.

I grew incredibly close to this cast and am so thankful for the friendships and memories we created along the way. I also feel incredibly lucky to have worked with so many extraordinary professionals, especially the writer of the show, Nick Blaemire, and composer Ryan Miller of the band Guster. Getting to be in the room with artists I admire and learn from their creativity, generosity, and collaboration was such a gift.

One of the biggest highlights was getting the opportunity to go on for Darius for three performances. And not just anywhere — but at Signature Theatre, one of my dream theatres.

I don't think I will ever forget what it felt like to step onto that stage. Getting to perform at Signature, with this incredible company, in a brand-new musical, was truly an unreal experience. It was one of those moments where I had to stop and remind myself just how lucky I am to be doing the thing I have dreamed about for so long.

I am so incredibly thankful to everyone at Signature who poured their time, talent, creativity, and heart into bringing Safety Not Guaranteed to life. Thank you for trusting me, challenging me, supporting me, and allowing me to be a small part of this show's journey.

And thank you to both of these casts for reminding me why I love this work so much.

Two very different shows. Two very different challenges. So many lessons, memories, friendships, and moments I will never forget.
