And just like that, Proof  has come to a close.

This production has meant more to me than I ever imagined it could. Playing the role of Catherine was not just a return to the stage—it was a return to a part of myself I hadn’t visited in a long time. Proof marks my first straight play since high school, nearly ten years ago. I honestly didn’t know if I had it in me to step into the world of dramatic theatre again, let alone feel confident in it. But this show changed that.

Catherine is complex, brilliant, vulnerable, guarded—and bringing her to life was both a challenge and a gift. Her story asked me to go deeper, believe in the truth she believes, and to trust that was enough. With every performance, I found myself growing, not just as an actor, but as a storyteller.

Sharing the stage with Beth Amann, who played Claire, made this experience even more special. Beth has known me for quite a while—she’s practically like a big sister to me, as she’s best friends with my actual big sister. Getting to act opposite her, to share those emotional, layered scenes, felt like such a full-circle moment. Our cast and crew quickly became a tight-knit little family, and I’ll always be grateful for their support and camaraderie.

One of the most heartwarming surprises was having my Oma in the audience. She hasn’t seen me perform since high school, and this time she flew out from Washington state with my Aunt Shelly just to see me on stage again. Sharing this piece of my heart with them meant the world. Their love and presence reminded me why I do this.

I am endlessly thankful to this show—for stretching me, surprising me, and reminding me what I’m capable of. And now, after a beautifully demanding run, I’m also thankful for a little break. Catherine was a mentally and emotionally intense role, and I’m looking forward to some rest before the next adventure.

To everyone who supported this journey—thank you. And to Proof and my Director, Stephen Emery—thank you for proving something to me I didn’t know I needed.

With love and deep gratitude,

Sydne
